6 Features We Expect to See on the Pixel 7a
The Google Pixel 7a is perhaps the most anticipated mid-range Android phone of 2023. Given the great reviews its predecessor the Pixel 6a received, especially for its camera and software, many fans are expecting to be pleasantly surprised this time around as well.
While Google hasn’t officially confirmed any details about the Pixel 7a, we have a pretty good idea of what the device will be like thanks to credible numerous leaks and rumors. Let’s check out six features we expect to see on the Pixel 7a.

1. New Design and Color
The first and most obvious change you’ll notice on the Pixel 7a is the new design, as the device is all but confirmed to look very similar to the Pixel 7. That means a metal camera bar (instead of a glass one like on the Pixel 6a) and a pill-shaped cutout for the main and ultrawide lenses. The websiteSmartprixhas shown off leaked images of the device.
Rumors also suggest the Pixel 7a will come with a new sky blue colorway alongside a new variant of Pixel Buds A-Series with the same color to go along with the phone.

2. 90Hz Refresh Rate
A big reason it’s difficult recommending thePixel 6a over other Android mid-rangersis that the device has a 60Hz refresh rate. This is disappointing considering that even some budget Android phones today come with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Luckily, the Pixel 7a is likely going to upgrade to a 90Hz panel making it the first phone in the Pixel A-series with a high refresh rate display. While it’s not the best, it is the same as you get on the Pixel 7, and it certainly helps.

3. Tensor G2 Processor
The Pixel 7a will likely also feature the Tensor G2, the same processor found on the flagshipPixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. While it’s not as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Galaxy S23 series, it delivers more power than most Android mid-rangers.
With Tensor, you’re also getting Google’s software smarts. That means the Pixel 7a will be just as competent as its flagship counterparts at tasks like speech and image recognition, live translation, call screening, and all thosePixel camera featuresthat fans have come to love.

4. New Main Camera
The Pixel 6a was thebest overall smartphone camera of 2022according to a blind camera test done by Marques Brownlee, YouTube’s biggest tech reviewer. And with the Pixel 7a, Google wants to take things to the next level as the device is rumored to feature a new 64MP main camera; the ultrawide lens is likely to remain unchanged.
The new main camera will allow you to take higher-resolution photos which means they’ll retain more detail even after zooming into the shot. The default resolution is likely going to be 16MP (via 4-in-1 pixel binning), but you may be able to switch to 64MP if you want more resolution.

5. Slightly Increased Battery Life
The 4410mAh cell on the Pixel 6a delivered decent battery life. It wasn’t as good as the Galaxy A53 or the Nothing Phone (1), for example, but it was good enough to last a day.
We’re expecting the Pixel 7a to feature a slightly bigger 4500mAh cell. Combined with the more efficient Tensor G2 chip, the device should be able to give you a couple more hours of screen-on time. However, using the 90Hz panel might make this improvement redundant since high refresh rate displays take more power to run.
6. Android 13 Out of the Box
The Pixel 7a will run Android 13 out of the box and will be upgradable to Android 16—that’s three years of major OS updates. Although it was a pretty minor update in the grand scheme of things,Android 13 introduced some cool new featuresincluding app languages, a new media player, interpreter mode, and more.
Get Excited for the Pixel 7a
The Pixel 7a is set to be announced on May 10 at Google’s I/O 2023 event. The latest rumors hint at a starting price of $499 which is slightly higher than the $449 launch price of the Pixel 6a. It’s also said that the 6a won’t be discontinued, so may itself become a bargain buy.
Still, at $499, the Pixel 7a looks like it will pack a lot of value just like its predecessor, especially since we’re now getting a 90Hz panel, the Tensor G2 processor, a new main camera, and a new design. It’s a good time to be a Pixel fan!
Pixel phones have improved in recent years, but Samsung is still by far the most popular brand. What would it take to get Galaxy users to switch?
