The week of Apple’s Mac-focused announcements is continuing with an updated MacBook Pro. And the laptop features more than just a speed boost.
Fast M4 Family of Chips
As expected, all the new MacBook Pro models offer the M4 family of chips. Along with the base M4, you can also choose a model with the M4 Pro or M4 Max. The fastest M4 Max proves up to 3.5 times the performance of the M1 Max.
While the design of the laptop remains the same, Apple has added another Thunderbolt 4 port to the two found in the previous model. Any model with an M4 Pro or M4 Max chip has three Thunderbolt 5 ports instead.

The MacBook Pro screen can now show SDR content at up to 1,000 nits with HDR content still shown at a max of 1,600 nits. The screen can also be ordered with the same nano-texture screen optionavailable with the M4 iMac unveiled on Monday.
A new 12MP camera offers improved video quality. The camera supports both Center Stage, which keeps the speaker centered in the frame, and Desk View which will show both the speaker and what’s on the desk.
Battery life has also been improved with the base M4 chip offering up to 24 hours of use on a single charge.
You canpre-order the new MacBook Pro starting todaywith orders landing on Friday, November 8.
The base, 14-inch model starts at $1,599. It comes standard with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, double the previous model. The base 16-inch model starts at $2,499 and comes with 24GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and an M4 Pro chip. If you’re looking for the M4 Max, be prepared to spend a minimum of $3,499. All the MacBook Pro models can be customized with additional memory or storage.
A Surprisingly Compelling Upgrade
One of the best features of any MacBook Pro is that it is designed to last for a number of years. But if you’re looking to upgrade from an aging machine, the new models offer some great additions.
Along with the faster M4 chip, better battery life, and more RAM/storage make the new models worth a look.
