Apple’s popular Mac mini is getting smaller and faster. Apple has just introduced the latest model of the compact desktop machine.

Small Enough to Fit in Your Hand

The Mac mini was always known for its small form factor. But the new model takes that to a new level.

At just 5 inches by 5 inches, the new model is half the size of the previous generation. A new thermal architecture guides air to different levels of the system with venting done through the foot.

You’ll also be able to easily access two new front-facing USB-C ports that support USB 3, plus an audio jack.

Buyers can choose from a model with an M4 or M4 Pro chip. Apple says the M4 chip offers up to 1.8 times faster CPU performance and 2.2 times GPU performance when compared to the M1 model.

The base M4 model features three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the rear of the machine, while the M4 Pro model has a trio of Thunderbolt 5 ports.

The M4 model supports up to two 6K displays and a single 5K display, while the faster chip can support three 6K displays at 60Hz. The rear of both machines also sports a Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI port.

All Mac mini models start with 16GB of RAM, double the previous model.

You canpre-order the Mac mini starting todaywith orders arriving for customers starting next week on Friday, Nov. 8.

A base model with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage is $599. You can upgrade to 512GB of storage for $200 more. A top-of-the-line M4 model with 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage is $999. If you’re looking for the M4 Pro, that machine starts at $1,399 with 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. All the machines can be built to order with additional memory and storage.

Just Bring a Monitor and Accessories

The Mac mini has always been a great value for Apple fans who already have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse ready to go.

With the updated design, it’s the most inexpensive way to grab a Mac with the M4 chip. If you’d rather have a complete, all-in-one solution, take a look at thenew iMac lineup Apple introduced Monday.
