The Fantasy Cup is a unique challenge in thePokémon GOBattle League. It uses the Great League format, which means only Pokémon that are at 1,500 CP or under are allowed to enter, but it also places restrictions on the types that can be used, with only Dragon, Fairy, and Steel-type Pokémon eligible to take part. This means forming the best team possible can be quite tricky, especially if you’ve not competed in this cup before.
While thePokémon GOBattle League primarily focuses on thethree main leagues- the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League - there are regularly themed cups that run alongside them to provide a fresh challenge, as well as an opportunity to flex some lesser-used Pokémon. The Fantasy Cup is the latest example of this, requiring Trainers to rethink their usual team compositions.

Pokémon GO allows players to trade Pokémon, which effectively transfers them to others. Pokémon GO does not allow players to trade back, though.
Best Team For The Fantasy Cup In Pokémon GO
Cover All Your Bases
One of the best teams you can use in the Fantasy Cup isAzumarill, Registeel, and Lucario. Azumarill and Registeel are looking like the key Pokémon in this cup, and between them, they should be able to take on the majority of opponents you’ll come across.
The Fairy/Water-type Azumarill leads the pack with an excellent moveset, plenty of bulk, and a double resistance to Dragon-type attacks that puts it in a great position to take on most of the meta (just watch out for Poison-type attacks from Galarian Weezing). Meanwhile,Registeelhas a huge 11 type resistances, including Dragon, Fairy, and Steel-type attacks, which will protect it against most moves that will come your way.

While having the best Pokémon with their optimal movesets is important, you’ll also need toget them as close to the 1,500 CP limit as possibleso they can reach their maximum potential. Be careful not to power them up over that limit, though.
Rounding this team out with a strong Fighting-type Pokémon will help you make light work of any Steel-type Pokémon that your opponent sends out into battle.Lucariois your best option, as being a dual Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon means it gains a lot of Steel’s resistances, including Dragon and Steel. This also eliminates Fighting’s usual vulnerability to Fairy-type attacks, so it only takes regular damage from those moves.

A good idea is to check outPvPoke’s rankingsand see which Pokémon are expected to perform well in this cup. From there, choose three Pokémon that have a range of types and attack coverage between them, to make sure you’ve got an answer for any opponent you end up battling against. Remember that they’ll need to be as close to the 1,500 CP limit as possible, too.

Pokémon GO Fantasy Cup Start & End Date
One Week To Compete
The Fantasy Cupbegins on Friday, June 28, 2025, at 1 PM PDT / 4 PM EDT / 9 PM BST. It will run for one week exactly in the Pokémon GO Battle League, meaning it will come to anend on Friday, July 29, 2025. Alongside the Fantasy Cup, you’ll also be able to compete in the traditional Great League.
It’s usually a good idea to avoid spending lots of resources powering up Pokémon for themed cups like this one because they don’t appear in the GO Battle League very often. However, the Fantasy Cup is a bit of an exception, because many of the top performers like Azumarill, Registeel, and Galarian Stunfisk are also great choices for the traditional Great League inPokémon GO, so they’ve got usability elsewhere which is handy.
