Summary

Along with it, the series also showcasedthe strongest power of Chainsaw Man, the ability to erase devils from existence, and the consequences it has for the entire world.

Chapter #172 was the continuation ofDenji transforming into the Hero of Hell, and saw Pochita’s true form, called"Armored Chainsaw Man", emerge after Denji witnessed Nayuta’s decapitated head. He was confronted by many hybrids and agents of the Public Safety, but was seemingly unstoppable.

One of the devils that he immediately defeated was the Ear Devil, and Chainsaw Man proceeded to eat it. This is a huge development that could really alter the series.

Chainsaw Man’s True Power Could Change the World Again

This Mysterious Ability Knows no Bounds

What makesPochita feared by all devilsis that if he eats one, they are erased from existence completely, never to return to Hell or Earth. However, as each Devil represents a human fear of something, once they disappear, the concept or things they are connected to are also gone forever, including things like nuclear weapons, a star, or even fates alternative to death. This is why Makima, Yoru and Fami were very interested in Denji, so that they could harness his innate ability for themselves. Eating the Ear Devil means that everyone’s ears are erased from existence. It might be confusing that an Ear Devil exists, but it could be linked to humans' fear of being overheard.

This isn’t the first time a human sense has been erased from existence by Chainsaw Man. Makima revealed to Kishibe thata sixth sense disappeared, most likely after its devil was eaten by Chainsaw Man. What this sense was is unknown, but this new development could shed light on it given the similarities.

Chainsaw Man Proves Why it’s So Revolutionary With One Incredibly Depressing Quote

Denji has experienced great trauma throughout CSM’s story, but his new sad quote in chapter #165 confirms why Chainsaw Man is so revolutionary.

Although this development is very shocking, there is still a chance that it could be reversed as the chapter ends with an agent sayingChainsaw Manwas about to eat the Ear Devil. The situation is still grim considering how absurdly powerful Pochita is, and how the events unfold are very exciting.

Most importantly,Chainsaw Man’s ability to erase things from existence remains one of the biggest unexplained mysteries in the series. Seeing it happen in real-time for the first time means that, hopefully, the series is about to shed light on this and the other mysteries that surround the powerful Chainsaw Devil.
