Summary
This article contains discussion of child suicide.
Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionmoves into a new story arc with episode #7, and after episode #6, it certainly needs it. Episode #6 concluded the anime’s recent mini-arc in as depressing and bizarre a way as one would expect from the story, and as always, there’s plenty of excitement for future installments, even if it’s impossible to know where things are going.
Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #6 continued Kadode and Ouran’s mysterious childhood adventures with the alien scout. Between the fun they had with his gadgets and Kadode’s volunteer work with the Demons, things seemed to be going as well as possible for them, but unfortunately,Kadode’s sense of righteousness went out of control and spelled disaster for herself and others.

It was the most dramatic turn for the anime yet, and it has incredible implications for the series, as a whole.
Original series created by Asano Inio; anime adaptation produced by Production +h

As the anime adaptation continues, it begins to reveal grim revelations about its characters
InDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #6, Isobeyan introduced Kadode and Ouran to another tool of his: a small wand that distorts space to move objects with varying degrees of force. Kadode, seeing the power it entailed, took the wand for herself one day and later ran into a pregnant woman while waiting for a train to pass. Kadode ranted about how a pregnant woman being forced to stand outside in the hot sun in such a situation was a failure of society, and to correct that,Kadode used Isobeyan’s wand to derail the oncoming train, inadvertently killing someone.
From there, Kadode started using Isobeyan’s wand to enact vigilante justice; first, she killed a corrupt politician, then she assaulted Ouran’s favorite band after one of them was outed for sexual assault, and then she started an online forum where people could request hits on the worst people they know. One of Kadode’s classmates tried to expose her for the train incident, butKadode used Isobeyan’s wand to force her classmates into silence under threat of death, something that Ouran hated to see.

When Ouran confronted Kadode about her actions, Kadode said that she would keep killing people to make a better world for Ouran, which escalated into a fight where Ouran called Kadode out for her selfishness. Later, Ouran went to her home to make up with her, and not only did she fail, butKadode, now remorseful of her actions, jumped off her balcony to kill herself. Before everything could play out, though, the scene abruptly cut back to the present where Ouran, seemingly unaware of what played out over the past two episodes, texts Kadode that she saw a ghost.
The anime adaptation has made a few bold narrative choices adapting Asano’s work in the past
As bizarre asDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #6 was, it does seem to confirm a major theory about Ouran. There’s an obvious discrepancy between Kadode killing herself as a child and being alive in the present, and going off of how the alien boy called Ouran a Shifter,Production +h.‘sDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionhas seemingly confirmed that Ouran can travel to and from timelines, with her likely traveling to a timeline where Kadode didn’t kill herself. How she gained that sort of power is unknown, but hopefully, it won’t be long before it’s fully addressed.
True to the energy that Asano brings to his work, the anime adaptation continues to deliver
WhileDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #5 was lighthearted, episode #6 excellently pivoted in the opposite direction. Kadode’s descent into a self-righteous serial killer felt like a natural extension of her previously established views on bullying and justice, and as haunting as her change in attitude was,the build-up to Kadode’s suicide made her change in attitude even worse. Even with the sci-fi elements, Kadode’s arc can be seen as a representation of what happens when victims of bullying are pushed too far, and watching that play out is as tragic as one would expect it to be.
The direction of episode #6 also did a great job selling those points. Whether it was a moment meant to be haunting or a moment meant to be emotional,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #6 always did a great job of selling the mood with its music and camerawork, Kadode’s suicide being an especially great standout. Overall, it was probably the best episode ofCrunchyroll’sDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionto date, and it’s the best showing of how excellent the writing has been from the very start.
