Summary

Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson enters theMCUwith an improved costume inDeadpool & Wolverine. To say thatDeadpool & Wolverineis an ambitious MCU movie would be an understatement.Deadpool & Wolverinefeatures numerous cameos, references, and reveals based on decades' worth of history from MCU projects, Fox’sX-Menfranchise, and other Fox-Marvel movies such asElektra,Blade, andFantastic Four— not to mentionplenty ofDeadpool & Wolverineeaster eggsincluded to satisfy die-hard fans. Still, Wade Wilson is at the heart ofDeadpool & Wolverine, as it’s Deadpool’s wish to protect his loved ones that propels the story.

One particular element that stands out inDeadpool & Wolverineis the costume department. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine wears the classic yellow-and-blue suit for the first time in twenty-four years, and Channing Tatum wears a comic-accurate Gambit after years of campaigning for the role. These stunning costumes may overshadow Deadpool’s himself, whose suit was already close to perfect inDeadpoolandDeadpool 2. However, Wade Wilson’s new costume sports a few changes that finish refining his comic-accurate suit, which also serves as the basis forall Deadpool variants that show up inDeadpool & Wolverine’s Deadpool Corps action sequence.

Deadpool’s New Suit Is Brighter Than The Previous Ones

Deadpool’s Costume Matches The Vibrant Red Of His Comic Book Appearances

Deadpool’s first proper superhero suit is still one of the most influential costumes in the superhero movie genre. Back in 2016, an almost one-to-one live-action adaptation of Deadpool’s comic book suit, complete with animated white eyes, was a bigger challenge than it seems now. However, Deadpool’s first costume still retained an element from many comic book adaptations: a darker shade than his comic book counterpart.Wade Wilson’s suit is burgundy red inDeadpoolandDeadpool 2, but bright red inDeadpool & Wolverine. This vibrant shade of red is the same shade seen in most of Deadpool’s comic book appearances.

Deadpool’s new suit is designed by the TVA’s tailor, who creates the suit based on Wade’s original costumes — albeit a little tighter in certain spots, as Deadpool confesses.

Deadpool’s White Eyes Are Narrower Than Before

Deadpool’s Animated White Eyes Are Just As Expressive As Wolverine’s

Surprisingly,Deadpool & Wolverinepulls back on Deadpool’s expressive white eyes from his previous two movies. While Deadpool’s eyes are still animated, his mask’s eyeholes are much smaller now. In fact,Deadpool’s white eyes are visibly smaller than Wolverine’s inDeadpool & Wolverine’s third act. This size difference may have been intended to emphasize the comic accuracy of Wolverine’s own mask, which sports large white animated eyes as well. BeforeDeadpool & Wolverine’s release, Wolverine’s mask became one of the most anticipated reveals of the whole movie due to its absence in every trailer and poster.

Deadpool’s Belt Buckle Finally Sports His Actual Mask Symbol

In the comics, Deadpool sports a belt buckle with an image of his mask printed on it. Sometimes, this mask symbol looks like a big red circle on top of a black background, with a red bar in the middle and two small semicircles on each side. Sometimes, the mask symbol on Deadpool’s belt buckle is an exact recreation of his mask, with the white eyes placed horizontally at a certain distance from each other.DeadpoolandDeadpool 2featured the former, andDeadpool & Wolverinefeatured the latter. Curiously, though, the latter appeared on a single poster for 2016’sDeadpool.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool hasn’t used his teleportation belt in live-action yet. Deadpool’s teleportation abilities inX-Men Origins: Wolverinewere inspired by this gadget.

Deadpool Wields Adamantium Katanas He Received From The TVA

Deadpool’s Biggest Upgrade Is His Favorite Weapon

The TVA’s tailor seems to have plenty of resources, as he crafted a pair of adamantium katanas for Wade Wilson in record time at the beginning ofDeadpool & Wolverine. After all, the TVA has pruned countless variants from all kinds of timelines for an indefinite amount of time, as seen inLokiseasons 1 and 2.Deadpool uses his new adamantium katanas to fight Wolverine in the Void, where he puts up a fight against Wolverine’s adamantium claws and comes dangerously close to damaging Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton. Deadpool’s tiny knife also seems to be made up of the same material.

One lingering question about the X-Men’s MCU introduction has little to do with the X-Gene. Although there are multiple different ways the MCU can present its version of the X-Men,the introduction of the MCU’s adamantiummight be a separate challenge altogether. From a new form of vibranium and a venture into Tiamut’s body to a franchise-wide multiversal retcon, there needs to be an explanation for why the MCU’s next Wolverine will have an adamantium skeleton. Deadpool’s adamantium katanas inDeadpool & Wolverineoffer a potential solution, with the TVA possibly providing the material to Earth-616.

Deadpool Steals Gold-Plated Guns From Nicepool

Deadpool Steals A Pair Of Guns From His Unbearably Nice Variant

Deadpool’s other two weapons inDeadpool & Wolverinecome from an unexpected source. The first Deadpool variant that Wolverine and Prime Deadpool meet on their quest to stop Cassandra Nova is Nicepool, a pacifist version of Deadpool with Wade Wilson’s original appearance and a full head of blond hair. Against Wolverine’s wishes,Deadpool takes advantage of Nicepool’s generosity, using Nicepool as a human shield and stealing Dogpool from him, all before stealing his favorite gold-plated gunsfrom his decapitated corpse. Wolverine disapproves of this despite the fact that he also contributes to the destruction of Nicepool’s car.

Apart from his katanas, Deadpool’s favorite weapons are the dual handguns. Deadpool doesn’t have access to a wide variety of guns inDeadpool & Wolverinedue to his new responsibilities with the TVA, but in previous movies, Deadpool has showcased his love for handguns, ranging from Berettas, Glocks, Colts, Desert Eagles, and even revolvers to submachine guns like the Mini Uzis, rifles, shotguns, and full-fledged machine guns. Inan eventualDeadpool & Wolverinesequel, Deadpool’s dual gold-plated handguns could become his signature weapons in what would be a twisted tribute to his fallen variant Nicepool.

Deadpool’s New Suit Has A Subtle Black Pattern Change

Deadpool’s Costume Has Reached Its Peak Look

There are very few details in Deadpool’s original costume that needed to be changed to be more faithful to the source material. If Deadpool’s live-action suit were a one-to-one adaptation of his first-ever comic book suit (introduced in 1990’sThe New Mutants #98), it would likely come across as too simplistic. However,Wade Wilson’s new Deadpool suit comes with a few subtle changes in its overall designinDeadpool & Wolverine— namely its neck and chest area, which sports three new black panels; as well as its leg area, which sports a thin black outline on the front of each shin.
