Dragon Ball Super’s Movies and Manga Continue the Story

The Tournament of Power Isn’t the End for Goku

Of course, the end of theDragon Ball Superanime isn’t the end of the story for Goku and his friends. Immediately following the events of the Tournament of Power isthe filmDragon Ball Super: Broly, which sees Frieza finding another long-lost Saiyan, Broly, who wields immense power. Frieza brings Broly to Earth to fight Goku and Vegeta, and he proves to be quite a difficult match for the two Saiyans. Goku and Vegeta are eventually forced to fuse into Gogeta for the first time in canon to defeat him. Broly is saved from dying by a timely wish on the dragon balls, sending him back to his home planet of Vampa. Goku later attempts to befriend Broly, hoping to help him train his power.

TheDragon Ball Supermanga also continues past the point of the Tournament of Power, with several complete arcs set afterward. Included among these is the ancient magician Moro, who escapes from a Galactic Patrol prison and goes on a planet-eating rampage. Goku’s struggles against Moro help him to gain more mastery over Ultra Instinct, allowing him to utilize brand-new powers, such as a massive energy construct, to help save the day.

Vegeta and Goku go head-to-head in the final frames of Dragon Ball Super.

Following Moro’s defeat, the story shifts intothe Granolah the Survivor Saga, focusing on a bounty hunter named Granolah who has a grudge against Saiyans. Granolah works with the Heeters, a group of planet brokers associated with Frieza, but they have their own goals that don’t necessarily align with Frieza’s. Granolah uses a new set of dragon balls to wish himself the strongest fighter in the universe, creating an almost insurmountable foe for Goku and Vegeta. The arc ends with Frieza making an appearance, having apparently trained hard enough to unlock a new form: Black Frieza.

After that is the Super Hero saga, which is both a film,Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and an arc in the manga. This story is set years after the Tournament of Power, as evidenced by the growth of Goten and Trunks. It tells of a plot by the Red Ribbon Army to create dangerous new androids with the aid of the genius Dr. Hedo, including a giant version of Cell known as Cell MAX. Gohan unlocks a powerful new transformation of his own, Beast Gohan, and with it is able to defeat Cell MAX and restore peace to the Earth.

Dragon Ball Super’s Ending Leaves It Open for Further Adventures

Could Dragon Ball Super Continue?

With so much manga content that has not yet been animated, many fans believe thatDragon Ball Super’s anime will return some day. While there has been no official word on a continuation of theDragon Ball Superanime, the open nature of its ending certainly leaves plenty of room for a continuation, if so desired. Such a continuation might focus exclusively on the manga arcs which have not been adapted, or it could include adaptations of the films, the same wayDragon Ball SuperadaptedBattle of GodsandResurrection ‘F’.

As it stands, theDragon Ball Superanime has a very open, happily-ever-after ending that feels like a satisfactory reward for all the struggles that Goku and friends faced throughout the series' run. While its epilogue is short, it does show what happens with many of the major characters and establishes a new era of peace for the Earth. Vegeta and Goku continue on their quest to grow stronger than they were yesterday, which is really the perfect ending for the two. WhileDragon Ball Supermay continue eventually, for now, the ending of the anime is a perfectly satisfactory one.
