Eufy X9 Pro

The Eufy X9 Pro provides the best of both worlds with a mop and vacuum in a single robot. Highlighting the double-duty device is a pair of rotating mops that spin three times per second and put more than two pounds of pressure on the floor to destroy annoying stains. When done mopping, the auto-clean station will wash the mop and dry it with hot air to prevent bacteria growth and odor. The vacuum features 5,500 Pa of suction.

Even the robot vacuum, long a mainstay of a modern smart home, continues to improve. What started as a simple way to clean up your carpet or hardwood floors has evolved with many more bells and whistles.

Many vacuums can now also do double duty and even mop your floors at the same time. We’ll take a look at a new option, the Eufy X9 Pro, and see if this robot is what you need to automate your cleaning.

Design and Unboxing the Eufy X9 Pro

Because the X9 Pro offers both a vacuum and mop, you’ll need to find a large spot for the docking station; in an open space, so the robot can find where to return. The docking station itself 17.4 inches tall,16.3 inches wide, and a little under 16.4 inches long.

Getting everything set up takes just a few minutes. In the box you’ll find the robot itself, docking station/power cord, and both a clean and dirty water tank.

Attach the power cord to the docking station and then an electrical outlet. Place the robot in the dock until you hear a voice say “charging.” Then it’s time to fill the large clean water receptacle.

The water there will be used to mop the floor and then clean the mopping pads when the robot returns to the dock. I’ve used other combination robot vacuum models, but the clean and dirty water tanks on the X9 Pro are easily the largest I’ve ever seen, which is definitely a good thing.

The clean water tank and dirty tank can hold around a gallon. In a little more than three weeks of use, I’ve only had to empty the dirty water tank and refill the clean tank once. Along with an in-app notification, there is a small light on top of the dock that is usually blue but will turn red when a tank needs to be filled or emptied.

Since the water tanks are so large, there is no room for an auto-emptying dust bin like many other models.

After getting the robot set up, you’ll then need to connect it to your home Wi-Fi. That process was quick and seamless, with just one note. Like many smart home devices, the X9 Pro only uses a 2.4GHz network. So if you have a mesh Wi-Fi system, like an eero, you may need to disable the 5GHz signal like I did to complete the connection.

A Great App Experience

Another great part of the overall experience is the well-designed and easy-to-use Eufy Clean app. Even if you’re new to smart home technology, getting the X9 Pro up and running is simple.

Once connected to the robot in the app, you’ll want to begin by using the Quick Mapping feature. Follow the instructions on the screen and make sure all of your doors are open and the floor is generally picked up. The robot vacuum uses LiDAR to map your home. The mapping run is quick. It mapped out my entire one-story, 1,700-square-foot home in under 20 minutes.

When done, you’ll see a completed map of your home. If it somehow missed a section, you can run through the mapping process again. You can then start customizing the map. I did a little bit of work on the map to better merge, divide, and name different rooms in my home.

You can also choose where the robot won’t go. There are three different options. A virtual boundary can be expanded or shortened to act as a simple line where the robot won’t pass. For smaller areas, you can create a no-go zone. As an additional bonus, you can also create a no-mop zone where the vacuum will still operate.

There are a number of other settings to take advantage of. you may create a scheduled cleaning or manually clean the whole home, specific room, or smaller zone. To begin, you can manually select the vacuum suction and how much water the mop uses or create a custom plan for each room.

That customization option is perfect for dirtier rooms in your home. For example, in my kitchen, I made sure to turn the mop amount and vacuum suction to the maximum each time.

In the app’s Settings menu, you can also change other parts of the experience, including how often to wash/dry the mop, what the robot should do when encountering carpet, and more. No matter how quirky your home is, you should definitely be able to customize the vacuum and mop operation exactly how you want.

Making the Most of the Mop

If you hate dragging the mop out of the closet, the X9 Pro is near perfection. I’ve used other standalone robot mops from iRobot and a vacuum/mop combination from Roborock, but Eufy’s take is light years ahead.

One of the reasons it stands out is the design. Instead of a single, stationary mop pad, the X9 Pro sports dual mop heads that are always rotating at around 180 rpm. Add to that, there is a downward pressure of around two pounds. So it does a better job of imitating what an actual human does when mopping a stubborn stain.

With two children and a pair of beagles, my house always seems to be some kind of stain, and who knows what else, on my hard floors. So instead of busting out my regular mop, I’ve happily let the X9 Pro battle those stains for more than three weeks. And the results have been beyond spectacular.

Using the maximum water setting on the mop, I’ve seen dried food, toothpaste, mud, and much more disappear after an X9 Pro run. This is the first robot mopping system that made my floor look and feel clean afterward.

I was planning on testing the mop even further, but an unfortunate accident with an entire can of pineapple chunks provided a perfect real-world opportunity. After manually cleaning up the mess on the floor, I waited until the next morning. And to no surprise, there was still a sticky goop from the juice on the floor. I set the X9 Pro to work and, after just a few minutes, I felt the floor with my hand. It was completely clean.

And even though my house has laminate flooring, I do have rugs in certain locations. To help keep those clean and dry, the mop will automatically lift around 0.5 inches when any carpet is detected. My rugs are a mix of high and low pile, but I never felt any wetness after a mopping cycle—even with the maximum water setting.

Since the dock will wash and then dry the mop head with hot air, there has been no strange smells or other buildup on the mop.

Prepare to Get Your Hands Dirty With the Vacuum

The other part of the Eufy X9 Pro, the vacuum, is a bit different. The vacuum itself is great. With a maximum of 5,500 Pa of suction, it’s one of the strongest robot vacuums available on the market.

Unlike some other high-end vacuum models, it only uses a single rubber roller brush. But for the most part, it did a great job sucking up everything on my floor, including dog hair, dirt, and larger particles.

When vacuuming, mopping, or both, the robot uses Time of Flight sensors and AI to avoid a variety of obstacles on your floor. After a cleaning cycle, you can even view the map in the app to see where something was avoided. This feature also worked very well. My X9 Pro has yet to get caught up in any object, despite the fact that my house always seems to have something on the floor like a pillow or dog toy.

But the real issue comes when the vacuuming is done. The vast majority of combo vacuums and mops at this price range will automatically empty the dirt into a bag in the base that only needs to be changed every few months. That’s not the case with the X9 Pro.

You’ll need to manually empty the dust bin, which holds a little less than 14 ounces. That involves opening the interior of the vacuum, grabbing the dust bin, and then opening it over a trash can. You will get your hands dirty no matter how hard you try.

In my testing, depending on the suction settings, I can fill the entire bin in just a few rooms. After the bin is full, which there’s no way to tell unless you manually inspect it, suction power is limited. My family has a number of allergies, including dust, so it’s not particularly enjoyable to have to empty the bin into the trash a number of times per day.

One of thebest reasons to buy a robot vacuum, especially a more expensive model, is convenience. And that lack of an auto-emptying bin takes away that advantage.

Eufy X9 Pro: A Mixed Bag

With an $899 retail price tag, the Eufy X9 Pro is difficult to recommend for most situations. While the mopping system is top-notch, the lack of an auto-emptying bin is a substantial knock. In today’s market, usually only budget models don’t offer the feature.

If you’re looking for a great robot mop that happens to have a vacuum, the Eufy X9 Pro is something to consider. But if you’re in a household with children and dogs, a combo model with an auto-emptying bin will make your life much easier—and less messy.
