It’s been confirmed thatExtraction 3is on the way, but few concrete updates have emerged about this project in terms of filming or release date.

Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series at Netflix, had the following to say about the upcoming series:

“Audiences are in for a thrill as we delve deeper into theExtractionuniverse. With Omar Sy leading the charge, our collaboration with the Russos, alongside Glen Mazzara, fans can expect even more of the high-octane adventures they love from theExtractionfranchise.”
What The Extraction TV Show Means For The Franchise
Omar Sy’s Casting Explained
Extraction 2reviewswere more positive than those for the original movie, and both films once held positions in the streamer’s all-time top 10 movies list. Even though the two films have since been ousted by newer releases, the franchise is clearly of great value for Netflix, and a TV show is an effective way to expand the IP’s reach. This is made doubly true by the casting of Sy.
Extraction 3 Only Has 1 Way To Beat Extraction 2’s One Shot Scene (But It’s Almost Impossible)
Extraction 2’s one shot action scene is the best action sequence of 2023, and there’s only one, near impossible way for Extraction 3 to top it.
Sy played gentleman thief Assane Diop across three seasons ofLupin, another Netflix original series. The show was remarkably well-received, with all three seasons earning glowing reviews.Lupinseasons 1 and 2 also both occupy positions on Netflix’s top 10 non-English shows of all time list, with season 1 coming in fourth place and season 2 coming in seventh. GivenLupin’s success, Sy’s casting has clear benefits when it comes to expanding theExtractionfranchise’s reach in non-English-speaking regions.

Our Take On The Extraction TV Show
Can The Series Succeed With A New Director?
Sy is an immensely talented and charismatic actor, and it will be interesting to see how the franchise changes when it doesn’t have Hemsworth front and center. The biggest test for the show arguably isn’t with its leading man, however, but with its direction.Hargrave, as a former stunt performer, has been crucial to bringing theExtractionfranchise’s signature sense of action to life, opting for fewer cuts and wider shots to show off hard-hitting choreography.
Hopefully, theExtractionTV show doesn’t turn out like theJohn WickTV show,The Continental, which suffered without the direction of franchise helmer Chad Stahelski. It remains to be seen whether theExtractionseries capture the same energy as the films, but it would seem, at this early stage, that there is reason to be optimistic.
