Summary

Fallout 4is packed full of fun side quests and places to explore, with one of the oddest that can be stumbled on being the beached USS Constitution. In one of the weirdest but wonderfully amusing quests, the Sole Survivor is tasked with helping a group of stranded tourist attraction robots or scrapping them for parts. However, there is a clear benefit to one choice over the other, both in terms of rewards and morality.

TheweirdFallout 4side quest"Last Voyage of the USS Constitution"will begin once the Sole Survivor gets close enough to the ship and is approached by a Mr. Handy named Lookout. The USS Constitution can be found almost directly east of Bunker Hilland is wedged on top of two buildings. Lookout will tell the Sole Survivor to meet with Captain Ironsides, the sentry bot leader of a group of robots who ran the ship when it was a tourist attraction and have gained some level of self-awareness.

Fallout 4: Should You Side With Paladin Danse Or Elder Maxson

Blind Betrayal comes near the end of Fallout 4’s Brotherhood of Steel questline and forces the player to make some tough choices about Paladin Danse.

Repairing The USS Constitution’s Systems Is Simple

The Quest Starts Easily By Replacing Or Fixing Broken Parts

After repelling a scavenger attack, the robot crew will ask for the Sole Survivor’s help in repairing their ship and, to begin with, thisFallout 4side questis straightforward. Ironsides plans to launch the ship off of her perch and into the ocean to become defenders of the Atlantic. Despite his old-fashioned language choices and hat,Ironsides seems very aware that the US and its military are gone, but simplybelieves that that makes him the highest-ranking officer still around. Once in the ocean, Ironsides plans to launch an attack on China, who were enemies of the US during the Resource Wars.

When fighting the scavengers during the initial attack, hitting any of the robots will cause the whole crew to become hostile. The best option is to use VATS or the ship’s cannons, which do not affect the crew.

However, after repairing the Constitution’s power cables and relay coils, the Bosun will ask for the ship’s guidance chip to be returned. The Mr. Handy will explain that it was taken by scavengers, andit’s at this point that a decision will need to be made. Going to the scavenger’s camp, the Sole Survivor will meet Mandy Stiles, who will try to persuade them to side with her and turn on Ironsides and his crew.

Their Goal Is Profit & Their Quest Reward Reflects This

If the Sole Survivor agrees to help Mandy and her team of scavengers, then little will change at first.Mandy will happily hand over the guidance chipand the Sole Survivor can return to the USS Constitution to continue the quest. More repairs will need to be made, and a radar transmitter will need to be found to progress. Finally, after retrieving the Turbopump Bearings, the Sole Survivor will have to decide if they are siding with Ironsides or Mandy.

If the scavengers are chosen, then the Bearings can be taken to Mandy where one of her men will sabotage them. Since the Turbopump is needed to feed fuel into the engines, any defect in it will cause failure and Mandy’s accomplice, Davies, will apply some acid to the Bearings to damage them.Once the sabotaged Turbopump Bearings are installed, the ship’s rockets will explode, causing Ironsides and his crew to immediately turn hostile. All the robots will need to be defeated in order to claim the ship and report back to Mandy.

However, when meeting back up with Mandy, she will explain that the scavengers have held a vote and chosen to double-cross the Sole Survivor. There is no way to deal with the scavengers peacefullyand everyone will need to be killed to finish the quest. This outcome nets the same amount ofXP from the side questas siding with Ironsides but with slightly more caps. However, there are no other rewards, making it only worthwhile from a roleplay point of view.

The quest will reward 500 caps regardless of which side is chosen, with an extra 500 if Mandy and the scavengers are sided with.

Fun, More Rewards & A Change To Boston’s Skyline Await

After refusing to work with Mandy and the scavengers, the Sole Survivor will need to take the guidance chip by force. However, it’s also possible with a high enough sneak to steal the guidance chip from the filing cabinet it is kept in. From there, siding with Ironsides and the robot crew sees the quest progress much the same way, until the retrieval of the Turbopump Bearings.

There is also the option to side with Mandy and her group to gain the guidance chip peacefully and then betray them after recovering the Turbopump Bearings by taking it straight to Ironsides.

Installing the Bearings will trigger another scavenger attack on the ship, with some of them even gaining access to the lower decks. The quest will fail here if any scavengers make it to the main deck, but with the robot crew’s help, the fight isn’t too difficult. After the attack, Ironsides will reward the Sole Survivor with the Broadsider, a unique and powerful heavy weapon, which is basically a portable naval cannon.

8 Best Weapons In Fallout 4 (& How To Get Them)

Fallout 4 offers plenty of firearms and melee weapons, that come with legendary effects and can be further enhanced with mods for better utility.

All that is left to do then is to leave the ship and flip the auxiliary power circuit to begin one of the bestFallout 4moments. The rockets of the USS Constitution will roar to life, slowly dislodging the ship from her perch on top of the Weatherby Savings and Loan building. The ship will soar through the sky for a few wonderful momentsbefore promptly crashing into a skyscraper.

To complete the quest“Last Voyage of the USS Constitution,”the Sole Survivor will need to travel to the ship’s new location. The new building is across the river in Boston’s Financial District and not too far from the Old North Church. Two elevators will need to be taken to reach the USS Constitution, butafter speaking with Ironsides one last time, he will give the Sole Survivor the Lieutenant’s Hat, and the quest will end.

Ironically, the new building the ship finds itself wedged in is also owned by the Weatherby financial group and was the offices for Weatherby Investment Trust.

Siding with Ironsides and his strange crew is by far the best optionwhen completing thisFallout 4side quest. Despite the robots' obvious corrupt programming, their goal is a harmless one and the historical ship deserves better than to be torn apart for scrap. Another major upside to siding with Ironsides is getting to watch as a huge heavy frigate flies across Boston. But more importantly, the quest rewards from Ironsides are better than from Mandy, as she will only offer caps, while the Broadsider alone is worth siding with the robots for.
