Flula Borg Explains The Origins Of Neon Dimension

“The Director Brothers And I Gave Birth To This”

Screen Rant: Flula, I’m excited aboutNeon Dimension. I saw the first couple of episodes, absolutely incredible. What inspired the idea of broadcasting from inside the arcade cabinet?

Flula Borg: Well, I can tell you right now as a very small baby child, I was playing Super Mario Brothers and also Duck Hunt. I was very hungry, but too lazy to go to the cerial section of my kitchen, so I just ingested the Duck Hunt cartridge and then I became trapped in the neon dimension. One piece of me, the other piece walks around and does stupid movies and films. The real half is trapped here.

How did this concept forNeon Dimensioncome about?

Flula Borg: A wonderful time. The Director Brothers and I gave birth to this like a robotic baby child that now enters and plays in 8, 16, and 32 bits.

Flula Borg Reveals How Neon Dimension Picks Games

“Our Guests Are Usually Given What They Like”

You have some incredible guests on the show like Reggie Watts and Bobby Moynihan and a lot of others. Can you talk about how you decided which guest will be right for which game?

Flula Borg: Well, what we do is listen, it’s like a restaurant. If you go to a Trader Joe, which is not a restaurant, but also normal restaurants and say, what would you like to eat? That’s what I give you. Our guests are usually given what they like, but then of course sometimes we throw a tiny curving ball or two.

Flula Borg Neon Dimension

Yes, you do. Can you tease any special guests that we don’t know about yet?

Flula Borg: Oh, smokey Jones. Okay, well listen and the Neon Dimension there are so many deep secrets, so I cannot tell you specific guests, but I can tell you they have been in films, movies, podcasts, and yes, whitewater rafting races.

Whitewater rafting races. Here we go. Now I love the Battle Royale segment. What kinds of video games are featured in the Battle Royale segments in the show?

Flula Borg: Well, basically anything that involves one human person fighting, another human person, lots of sports things. Also tech. We’ve got very fun. Tony Hawk face offs, if you remember Shobby, that’s coming down the pike and way back flashback. Zach’s on, but that’s season two, so I have to slow my roads. I’ve already spilled too many of those beanies.

Neon Dimension Welcomes The New And The Retro

“There’s A Lot Of Old School [Games] We’ve Already Shown”

Are there any retro games that you’re particularly excited to showcase or even games that from the past that you haven’t played that you’re excited to dive into?

Flula Borg: Yes. There’s a lot of old school ones we’ve already shown. Even Burger Time - I did not know what Burger Time is. You get to watch these old commercials to teach you of these strange things. Pole Position, what a fun one. And of course, Pole Position II. So much grass. Don’t drive on the grass! That’s my only pet peeve.

How did Ryan Reynolds and Maximum Effort get involved in this project?

Flula Borg: Well, we are all buddies and friends with those guys, and when we told them about this concept, they got very, very excited. It was as if we sent them a large bucket of red vines. So we said, listen, let’s do this. We ate all the sucrose and glucose and we did it.

With a lot of these games, are you planning on doing any of the morerecent releases likeOverwatch?

Flula Borg: Yes, we are. So we are going to, it’s like a fun little time Travis segment where as we go further into these seasons and shows, we will start getting a little more recent. But listen, I can tell you, our guests love going back in the times. They’re like Michael J. Fox, and I’m Christopher Lloyd. Let’s do this.

Are you a big gamer yourself, and if so, what games are you currently playing right now?

Flula Borg: I love emulators, so I’m still playing many of those tasty, delicious old school games. I cannot type it, Castlevania. Why not? And yes, the hunting of ducks, I’m into this, but also I like being rude. I like a little Grand Theft Auto. I can’t break laws in the real life, but here’s what I do. I don’t even break laws. I’m trying to find a place where I can find quarters to help people feed their meters or perhaps wash their dry cleanings.

You’re like the good samaritan inGrand Theft Auto, you’re just trying to help old ladies cross the street and ensure the bank don’t get robbed.

Flula Borg: Do you need help parallel parking? Listen, I’ve taken lessons. You have 40 hours of driving lessons in Germany. Let me help you.

I love it. You’re going to be rocking that minivan in the newGTAI’m sure.

Flula Borg: I am not messing around. Exactly. Yes. Both doors open automatically on my van.

Yes, they do. Now withNeon Dimension, what are some of your favorite moments or memories from the first season so far?

Flula Borg: Oh, it was very wonderful to have Reggie Watts and Bobby Moynahan pit against each other in friendly, fun times. They are very happy and excited to go for anything I feed them, which was very fun. Also very dope. Joey Valence and Brae, they have a song called Punk Tactics. They are like, if the Beastie Boys were 30 years younger and also still just as dope, they’re amazing. We have a wonderful grab group. Paris Texas is coming. We are very excited about that and a few surprises.

If this show happens to really blow up like I think it will. Are you planning on turning this into a larger franchiser series for a streaming platform or whatever it may be?

Flula Borg: Well, absolutely, yes. Currently, we are very much enjoying streaming this on FUBU and other Maximum Effort channels. But yes, listen, this is a tiny baby child. This is like season one of Game of Thrones, those three eggs are there. What will happen? Oh, I think they will hatch and create very dope, magic, and havoc in the best way.

Flula Borg Is “Crossing Fingers And Toes” For Ryan Reynolds To Appear On Neon Dimension

Now, I know that Ryan’s involved with this, what are the chances that you’re going to get him on an episode?

Flula Borg: We are very much crossing fingers and toes, and not just Ryan, but also Alf. That is our big dream.

He loves cats.

Flula Borg: Exactly. Exactly. And not lasagna. That’s Garfield.

Alf does love eating cats. Now, out of all the guests you’ve had, who is surprisingly the most competitive guest you’ve had on the show?

Flula Borg: Ooh. Well, we have a random character on a show called Professor Screwball, who’s not even a guest. He was the most competitive. Anytime that the loose tennis ball or a bowl of ravioli, he would eat it immediately. Who is Professor Screwball? Season two baby, letting you know.

Oh, I can’t wait for season 2. I got to find out who this professor is now.

Flula Borg: Yes, yes. I cannot tell you. Listen, a dimension head never tells

“The Chances I Hope Are Greater Than Zero” Of Javelin Returning In James Gunn’s DC Universe

What are the chances that we get Javelin either back in the DCU, or that we get you playing a new character in James Gunn’s universe?

Flula Borg: To speak of chances, I love mathematics, so I’m just going to say the chances I hope are greater than zero. Because working with James Gunn was a very wonderful experience. He is the dopest, and a wonderful world to play in is the mind of James Gunn. In the real dimension, James Gunn’s brain is where you want to be.

That is where you want to be. In theNeon Dimensionthough, what games from the past retro games have you never played before? You’ve never heard of before that you’re discovering and they’re brand new to you?

Flula Borg: Oh, Dig Dug. What is that? I had to learn what that’s all about. Zaxxonwas new to me, if you know this one. It’s a weird 2D flying game. That was very exciting, and then I know this is weird, but Super Mario Cart. I’ve never played Mario Cart in my life. I know. Where have I been living? In a small, tiny cavern, not Carlsbad. Another one.

Incredible. Now, let me just put some requests in. I want to see Paperboy and Double Dragon 100% on both of those in there.

Flula Borg: Done and done. I’m notifying the games department, which is comprised of a bunch of ninjas.
