WithPowell’s star power only increasing, the star has a number of projects already lined up beyondTwistersthat could very well continue this streak. The first is the currently filming dark comedy thrillerHuntington, in which he plays a man who comes up with a murderous plot to inherit his family’s wealth. In addition to coming from indie powerhouse A24, who are known for almost exclusively delivering unique hits, the movie is being written and directed byEmily the Criminalbreakout John Patton Ford.
Powell is also set to begin filming on Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’sThe Running Manin Fall 2024.
In addition toHuntington, Powell is expected to return for the in-developmentTop Gun 3which, even if not released for a while due to Tom Cruise’s busy schedule, seems all but primed to keep Powell’s successful run on Rotten Tomatoes alive. While it’s unclearifTwisterswill itself get a sequel, the fact that it has surpassed its iconic predecessor in its reviews and is expected to also do so at the box office, it will be interesting to see if Universal looks to bring Powell’s Tyler Owens back for another storm-chasing adventure and match the success of the 2024 movie.
