Summary
The changes to the characters and weapons banners inGenshin Impactare set to arrive with Version 5.0 and they could drastically improve players’ experience with the gacha system when acquiring new playable units or their respective signature weapons. Version 5.0 is the next big patch for HoYoverse’s RPG. The update will add Natlan to the playable map area in Teyvat and kick off a new story arc set within the region. As is the case with any new Nation, several newplayable characters inGenshin Impact5.0will make their debut, paving the way for future releases as well.
The new content planned for Version 5.0 is expected to take on the majority of the spotlight, though, aside from new additions, the developer is working on several system optimizations to enhance the overall gameplay experience. This includes, for instance, increasing the material drops from some of the most troublesome opponents to farm, as well as the inclusion of World Level 9, which comes with its own buffs at the cost of increased difficulty in enemy encounters. HoYoverse has also announced some big changes to the characters and weapons banners inGenshin Impact, which could make players much happier.

Leaks about Xilonen in Genshin Impact hint at a Version 5.1 release, as well as an incredible set of abilities that may be worth the pulls.
Character & Weapon Banners Will Sustain Changes In Genshin Impact 5.0
The Modifications Will Be Permanent Moving Forward
As was announced by the developers during the Version 5.0 livestream, which was broadcast on the officialGenshin Impactchannel on Twitch, both the limited-time character banners and the weapons banners will undergo some changes starting with the next update– changes will be permanent and not limited to Version 5.0 per si. Overall, these modifications will increase players’ chances of pulling their desired 5-star character or weapon, respectively, shifting further away from the frustration of losing 50/50 pulls. Each of theseGenshin Impact5.0 bannerswill see different changes applied to them given they each have unique pulling mechanics.
The standard banner, also known as Wanderlust Invocation, will not be modified.

Changes To Limited Character Banners In Genshin Impact 5.0
Capturing Radiance Has A Chance Of Being Activated Upon A 50/50 Loss
The changes to the limited-time character banners, starting with Version 5.0, are limited to the introduction of a brand-new pulling mechanic called Capturing Radiance. When players activate a 50/50 5-star pull where they do not have the featured 5-star character guaranteed, they have a 55% chance of triggering the Capturing Radiance mechanic. This mechanic is represented by a special visual effect symbolizing it has been triggered. When Capturing Radiance is triggered, the featured 5-star character in the banner is guaranteed within the 50/50 5-star pull. This applies to both new and rerun character banners inGenshin Impact.
It is worth noting that this does not mean that players now have a 55% chance of pulling the featured 5-star over a 45% chance of pulling a character or weapon from the standard loot pool. Instead, players still have to dispute the 50/50 odds and, upon losing the pull, they have a 55% chance of triggering Capturing Radiance, which would then ensure the character they want. The mechanic for limited-time character banners was created to alleviate the frustration involved with continuously losing 50/50 pulls, even if players ensure the featured 5-star character inGenshin Impactupon losing a 50/50.

In essence, Capturing Radiance is a nudge toward pulling the featured character rather than a standard hero. The mechanic does not affect the base chance, per si, but allows players an extra and improved chance at circumventing the 50/50 loss. As such, it should become a lot easier to obtain the featured 5-star characters from Version 5.0 onward. This does not prevent players from losing the 50/50, however. If they lose the 50/50 pull, the next 5-star pull they have is guaranteed to have the featured 5-star character inGenshin Impact, maintaining the same rules currently applied to banners.
Genshin Impact’s Featured 5-Star Characters Are About To Get A Lot Easier To Pull
A new character banner update arriving with Genshin Impact 5.0 may increase the odds of getting the limited character instead of a standard 5-star.
Changes To The Weapons Banner In Genshin Impact 5.0
Within the weapons banner, the change is extremely beneficial to players. The Epitomized Path system is still in place but will be much less punitive starting in Version 5.0. With the update, the number of Fate Points that players can accumulate will be reduced from two to one. When a new weapon event begins, players will still be required to select their desired weapon out of the two that are available. If players pull a 5-star unit that is not the one they chose, the next 5-star pull is guaranteed to be the 5-star weapon they chose inGenshin Impact.
The Fate Point will be consumed, ensuring the desired 5-star weapon pull and resetting progress within the banner count.

This is a massive change to what is, arguably, the worst pulling mechanic in the game. Currently, players need to accumulate two Fate Points to get a guaranteed pull for the 5-star weapon they desire. This means that, if players are unlucky and pushed toward the hard pity of 80 wishes for every 5-star pull, they could see themselves spending a total of 240 wishes before they obtain the weapon they desire. When pulling in the weapons banner, players can lose the 5-star pull to the other featured weapon or the 50/50 standard loot pool inGenshin Impact.
The reduced Fate Point count that will be applied with Version 5.0 should significantly decrease the number of wishes necessary to obtain the desired 5-star. Even if players are unlucky and pushed toward the hard pity of 80 wishes for every 5-star pull, they will spend a total of 160 wishes to obtain the desired weapon, as opposed to the punitive 240 pulls from before. This is a huge improvement and brings the weapons banner a lot closer to the standard applied to character banners but with a reduced hard pity.

For reference, character banners have a hard pity of 90 pulls, whereas the weapons banner has a hard pity of 80 wishes.
These changes will be great and should make the pulling experience a lot more pleasant, even if players are still subject to the possibility of losing their 50/50 pulls. In addition to that, HoYoverse also announced that players will be gifted one free 5-star character from the standard pool every year, which can help bolster their roster of playable characters moving forward – and even if they lose the 50/50, they can still unlock Constellations. Even if they do not affect the basepull rates inGenshin Impact, these quality-of-life changes will likely make the gacha system feel more worthwhile.
