InThe First Descendant, Void Shards are one of the consumable materials players will want to find. The game is unclear on how to find them or what to do with them once you do, but they are quite useful as theyallow you to grab higher rarity loot. Getting Void Shards
Void Fragment Missions
The only current way to get Void Shards is to find theVoid Mission icons on the map and go there to destroy the Void Fragments, completing the mission. However, the tricky part is that these fragments can all require a different attribute or skill to break. So that means you must have acharacter fromThe First Descendantthathas that attribute to break the Void Fragmentand start the mission.
Considering the effort tounlock characters for free without using money to pay for them, this will take a very long time if you are playing alone. Luckily, you canplay with friends inThe First Descendant, and anyone in the party can break the Void Fragment. This would likely convinceyou to use a different character and unlock other charactersto have more diverse options when possible.
Once you start the mission, you willencounter a horde of Vulgus enemiesin waves. Once you defeat one wave, you will have a certain amount of time to do as much damage as possible with the skills you can use on the Void Fragment. When time runs out, a new horde will appear, and thecycle continues until the Void Fragment is destroyed. After the Fragment is destroyed, you will receive Void Shards as a reward. There arefour different types of Void Shards, which are as follows:
You will only get1 of each Shardthat you receive as a reward from a single encounter.
You can then use these Shards topower Void Reactors found throughout the game. Some require different types, and some do not. Often, a Void Reactor will accept two different kinds of Shards.
