Star Wars Eclipsehas been nearly forgotten by a large percentage of fans, and there are some good reasons for this. There are a flood of Star Wars games already here and on the horizon,so it is easy to get caught up in what is at the center of our attention. However, I’m convinced there is one big reason why this game doesn’t seem to stick in my memory as well as other games have.

Thegames of the Star Wars franchisehave always been important to the community. In fact, theLego Star Warsseries was the first game I ever played to completion on a console when it came out on the Game Cube. If it wasn’t for that game, I probably wouldn’t be writing about games today. Despite their importance, some of the games can fall through the cracks when things go quiet.

I Forgot All About Star Wars Eclipse

The Game Was Too Easy To Forget About

WhenStar Wars Eclipsewas announced, I was fairly excited about the potential. However, when I went to look further into it,there was no release window given and the news suggested that it would take years for it to come out. Given that, I tried not to think about it too hard, and I thought based on the other evidence thatStar Wars Eclipsemight get delayedeven further or canceled altogether.

Star Wars Eclipse Developer Claims It Won’t Be A Detroit Clone

Star Wars Eclipse’s developer has made it clear that the game won’t just be a copy and paste of Detroit: Become Human in the Star Wars universe.

ConsideringStar Wars Outlawswas announced relatively close to the same time and came out last year,it was easy to forget a Star Wars game that didn’t have as much media attention. In the meantime,Star Wars Jedi: Survivorwas also released, as well as a number of mobile games and a fair amount of television shows. There are also a number of other games in development, and that can make it hard to keep up with all of the news and remember the ones that were announced a while ago.

Star Wars Eclipse Was Announced Back In 2021

There Has Been A Lot Of Silence Since Then

The trailer fromStar Warswas officially released in December of 2021, and there’s been little to no news since. I haven’t seen it talked about by either the developer, the franchise, or the fanbase for quite some time, but every now and then something will trigger my memory. It’s unfortunate because the trailer was extremely well put together and made it look quite exciting. There was a lot of hype surrounding it in the weeks surrounding the announcement before it faded back into development and I began to forget about it.

Most of what we do know is that this game will feature the High Republic, which was recently shown for the first time on screen inAcolyte. It seems like this game will likely be further back in the timeline than that, although we do get a glimpse of Yoda - or someone who looks a lot like him. That does put an upper limit on how far back this could be if so, but I am excited for another voyage back in time, if I remember that this game is still in development.

When SW Eclipse May Finally Come Out

Coming Out Before The End Of The Decade May Be Possible

We aren’t sure yet when it might come out, but the earliest date rumored at the time of the announcement was 2026, before more news came out thatStar Wars Eclipsemight release in 2027. Now, with no further news, there are rumors floating aroundthat the expected release date is actually between 2028-2030, which is an incredibly large window for a game that’s been in development for this long.

Additionally, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the developer, Quantic Dream, who was facing a lot of difficulties around the time this game was announced. However, in August of 2022,Quantic Dream was sold to NetEase, which might have delayed the development process even further and pushed the game onto the backburner for some time as NetEase settled in as the new owner. It sounds like 2028 will be the earliest we will get it at this time.

It’s Hard To Be Excited For A Game With A Far-Off Release Window

The Developer Needs To Do More To Keep The Excitement Present

The release window on Star Wars Eclipse made it hard to get excited, and even harder amid the controversy, the sale, and then the lack of news. If we got an update on the development beyond a small announcement, things might be a little more exciting. Even then, however,it is just hard to keep the excitement alive when the game is so far off in the future. Particularly when there are a lot of other Star Wars games in development, including the sequel toJedi: Survivor, that seem to have more consistency behind them.

Star Wars Eclipse Will Reportedly Feature New Alien Species

Star Wars Eclipse could add a new alien race to the Galaxy Far, Far, Away in the form of the Zaraan, and the game’s main character could be one.

It would be nice to see a new trailer, or any kind of gameplay in the near future to keep the game in our minds. The first trailer was completely cinematic, with no footage of the actual game or what the story might be beyond a few shots of the eclipse in the title. It looked very cool, and a game that actually centers around alien species, which was said to be the case, would make this one unique and different compared to many of the other Star Wars games out there.

I’d love a game where the protagonist is a non-human, but we still don’t know if that’s actually the case. If the franchise wants players to get excited about the game, they will need to give us a little something to keep it in our minds. I would like to hear more about the story itself and what kind of gameplay can be expected. While they have said it will not be exactly likeDetroit: Become Human, they also have not told us much about whatStar Wars Eclipsewill be like, and that’s a problem.
