He said people have been asking him for years when a sequel to the film would finally happen, but because of the poor box office performance byIdiocracyback in 2006, a follow-up film was never a viable option. He finally pitched the comic to Judge, who approved the idea to bring Camacho back as a comic.

Terry Crews Revives Cult Favorite Character For Faux Presidential Run
Terry Crews, revives his Idiocracy cult favorite character President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho for a faux presidential run.
While the originalIdiocracyfilm was a box office failure, releasing in only two theaters over one weekend, it developeda massive cult following in the next decade. As Terry Crews said in an interview with ComicBook.com, “Camacho is one of the most iconic characters I’ve ever had a chance to play…I’ve had major, major stars come up to me, Will Ferrell, Bill Maher all like,‘Dude, this is one of my favorite movies of all time.'” Since a sequel was never in the cards, Crews and Judge came up with the idea of a follow-up comic.

However, even though Judge wrote the movie and Crews played Camacho, they weren’t free to do as they liked: 20th Century Fox, now owned by Disney, owns the IP. They had creative freedom to do whatever billion-dollar-budget scenes they wanted in a comic, but would need permission to print, market, and sell it. To get this sequel out to the people, they had to come up with another clever move:distribute the book for free.Hence, the low printing number of 2,024 copies, 1,000 of which are being distributed on the San Diego Comic Con floor.
IdiocracyIs More Relevant Than Ever
Year after year,Idiocracygains new fans, because the prescient movie seems likeit predicted our present. While celebrities running for political office was once a joke or a fluke, multiple comedians, game show hosts, and professional wrestlers have run and won races, all the way to the White House, despite having no experience and no platforms.Idiocracyhas resonated with anyone who’s ever read the news and felt like they were taking crazy pills, and being able to step back and laugh at the situation in fiction is sometimes the only respite.
As Terry Crews said,it’s not just random fans who want to revisit this world, it’s major stars and celebrities who have praised the film and its writing as well. Given the incredibly limited distribution of this comic, it may itself become a cult hit, passed around like so many bootleg VHS tapes of the past. If this limited run is well-received,Disney or Marvel may pick it up for a larger run.Until then, you’ll have to hope you’re one of the lucky 2,024 to get your hands onTerry Crews’Idiocracysequel,Camacho. It’s what plants crave.
