Is Watching Ads on Disney+ Worth $3/Month?

Would you watch ads if that meant you save $3 every month? That is the big question that Disney+ seems to want the answer to.

With two plans instead of one, Disney+ is switching things up a bit in an effort to fall in line with other streaming services that offer ad-supported tiers.
Disney+ Is Changing Its Subscription Plan Strategy
Starting in December 2022,Disney+ will increase its priceand add a new subscription plan instead of one. Disney Premium and Disney Basic are the company’s new tier names.
Disney Premium is the name for the ad-free tier. The price for this plan will increase from $7.99/month to $10.99/month.

Disney Basic, the ad-supported subscription plan, will cost $7.99/month, which means the ad-supported tier will cost $3 less than Disney’s ad-free plan.
One thing we should note, however, is that even in its efforts to make money off of ads,Disney+ plans to handle its ad-supported tierso kids and preschool programming won’t have to watch ads.

Is It Worth Saving $3/Month to Watch Ads on Disney+?
Areport from Wall Street Journalindicated that Disney+ would limit the ad-load to about four minutes per hour. Whether or not that will remain constant throughout the years remains to be seen.
This strategy falls in line with what other streaming services are doing, including Peacock and HBO Max. Four minutes per hour, however, is about half the amount of ads you have to sit through with Hulu’s ad-supported tier.

Time is money, however, and Disney is expected to make more money out of those four minutes of ads per hour than it is “losing” through the subscription price difference. Basically, over a month, the time spent watching ads will generate more income for Disney+ than the $3 you’re saving.
There’s also the fact that if you don’t want to watch ads on Disney+, you’ll have to pay more starting in December, generating more revenue for the company.

We also have to consider that a $3 difference may not be worth it. For the price of a loaf of bread, you’d spend hours watching ads, wasting time out of your already busy schedule.
How Much Is Your Time Worth?
When it comes to Disney+ and the ad-supported tier, you have to take into consideration whether saving $3 is worth getting interrupted when watching your favorite shows and movies on the platform. We believe that time is far more valuable, and so is watching content uninterrupted. After all, this is what made streaming services so attractive when compared to regular cable TV in the first place.
