Odin’s Line In 2011’s Thor Teased The God Of Thunder Getting His Throne
Although raised on Asgard under the watchful eye ofAnthony Hopkins' Odin, Loki was actually born to the Frost Giant King Laufey on Jotunheim. Taken from his original family and raised alongside Thor, Loki grew up with the dream of becoming King of Asgard, but it seems this was never his true destiny. During a flashback in 2011’sThorto a time when Thor and Loki were children,Odin also expressed this sentiment, as he revealed to his sons that"only one of you may ascend to the throne, but both of you were born to be kings."
Thor would eventually become King of Asgard inThor: Ragnarok.

Loki Actually Ascended To The Throne In The MCU’s Phase 5
While Odin, and perhaps everybody else, expected Thor to become a steadfast King, it was actually Loki who ascended to the throne in Phase 5’sLokiseason 2.This was a burden that marked Loki’s full evolution into a hero, as he abandoned any possibility of a happy lifewith his new friends at the Time Variance Authority, instead choosing to spend eternity guarding the branching timelines and realities of the multiverse. This was detailed duringLokiseason 2’s emotional finale, establishing a new version of the Yggdrasil world tree in the MCU.
Loki and his TVA team had spent the entire season searching for a way to fix the Temporal Loom, a machine that created stability for the Sacred Timeline. After spending centuries attempting to fix the Loom, however,Loki realized the only way to save the multiverse would be to destroy the machine and take its place. Both Thor and Loki sacrificed a great deal to assume their positions on their thrones, though Loki is the only one capable of sitting in his, while Thor was able to pass his throne onto someone perhaps more deserving.

Ever since Loki was killed by Thanos in the opening moments ofAvengers: Infinity War, there have been hopes that Marvel Studios would find a way to reunite him with his brother, the God of Thunder.Thor and Loki have always had a tumultuous relationship, but the brothers became much closer, and even became allies, inThor: Ragnarok, just in time Loki to die. Tom Hiddleston recently suggested that he"can’t even conceive"of a life without Loki, suggesting he is bound to return to the MCU at some point.
Loki’s new role as the guardian of the multiverse, and perhaps the God of Stories, means it may be easier for him to reunite with his brother. It’s possible thatLoki could use his magic to project images of himself into various timelines, which he now controls.
