AsJean Greyof theX-Menheads to space to make her mark as the once and futurePhoenix, she’ll be doing so from a newly introduced space base. What her headquarters looks like remains to be determined, but it’s a sign of what Jean’s attitude towards the wider Marvel cosmic menagerie will be.

Phoenixwill feature Jean venturing off into space to interact with the broader cosmic Marvel Universe in ways only the Phoenix Force could. If Jean is going to be embarking on intergalactic travel, then itmakes sense for her base to either be a spaceship, a space station, or some combination of the two – though readers will have to wait for the release ofPhoenix#1 to find out.

Writer Stephanie Phillips Promises Exciting Reveals InPhoenix#1

As Phillips points out, Jean’s power as the Phoenix is potentially infinite, but creature comforts are better than the cold of space.

Writer Stephanie Phillips dropped several tantalizing hints about what is to come in herPhoenixseries. Specifically, she mentioned thatPhoenix#1 will include the reveal of Jean Grey’s new space-based headquarters, as she vaults up the hierarchy of Marvel’s cosmic heroes. As Phillips stated:

The Phoenix Jean Grey vs Black Order Thanos

Yes. As the Phoenix, Jean doesn’t technically need any of that, but Scott has helped her create a kind of HQ in the stars to adjust to her new living situation. To be revealed in issue 1…

Phoenixis one of several titles in the new‘From the Ashes’ X-Menera, focusing on solo characters, and few characters are more deserving of this than Jean. At the Krakoan Era’s conclusion, Jean once again died and became one with the Phoenix Force, returning with seemingly more control over it than ever.

Now, with a new lease on life, it’ll be up to Jean herself to define what the Phoenix means to the broader Marvel Universe. As Phillips points out, Jean’s power as the Phoenix is potentially infinite, but creature comforts are better than the cold of space. This indicates Jean is choosing to emphasize her humanity in the new series; having an actual physical base of operations could be considered a sign of this. The Phoenix’s home isthe heaven-esque White Hot Room, which sits outside time and space, but Jean is anchored to the here and now.

Cyclops Is Showing His Support For Jean’s Off-Earth Adventures By Building Her A Base

A New Level Of Long Distance Romance

As Jean Grey heads off on her cosmic journey as the Phoenix, it would be ironic if it were the X-Men’s enemies who facilitated her going further than ever.

This isn’t the first time that Jean’s lived in space. During the majority of the Krakoan era, her andthe extended Summers family lived on the moon, and the fact that Cyclops is arranging this base gives a possible hint towards its origin. Previews have revealed that Jean will once again be working with the spacefaring pirates the Starjammers, led by Cyclops' father Corsair. The Starjammers, via Scott, could be essential in helping Jean get set up in space, especiallysince both them, and the Phoenix itself, have a somewha thorny relationship to wider intergalactic hierarchies.

The other possibility is that Cyclops will be using tech developed to kill mutants to help Jean. InX-Men (2024)Scott will be leading an X-Men teambased out of a Sentinel factory in Alaska previously run by the anti-Mutant coalition Orchis. Orchis, whose own bases were primarily space stations, might just be the key to getting Jean comfortable in her own space base. AsJean Greyheads off onher cosmic journey as thePhoenix, it would be ironic if it were theX-Men’senemies who facilitated her going further than ever.

Phoenix (2024)#1will be available August 18, 2025 from Marvel Comics
