Summary

My Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #3 did a good job of further expanding on the basic premise of the story, and with that, there’s plenty of great setup forepisode #4and beyond. Between the always-stellar art and animation and writing that always finds a way to be as entertainingly funny as possible, there’s still plenty to love aboutMy Deer Friend Nokotan, and that’s unlikely to change, anytime soon.

Unlike the previous episodes,My Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #3 was split into three segments, each running for about a third of the episode’s runtime. The first segment is centered around a single comedic skit involving Koshitan embarrassing herself in one way after another, and the last two segments, while telling different stories, revolved aroundthe Deer Club gaining two new members comprised of Anko and a brand-new character.

It did a great job of adding more life to the story’s charms, showing how much room there is for growth in the story, overall.

What Happened In My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode 3?

Produced By Wit Studio; Directed By Shogo Arai

The first segment ofMy Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #3, “Splashing Enrollment,” saw Koshitan entering the Deer Club one day to find an actual deer sitting around. Koshitan assumed that the deer was Nokotan playing a prank on her, so she kept trying to force Nokotan to expose herself by promising to share in various activities with her, including an awkward song that had Koshitan doing the famous“Emo Peter” dance fromSpider-Man 3. Eventually, the real Nokotan appeared and revealed that the deer was just a deer that escaped from the zoo, meaning Koshitan embarrassed herself for nothing.

The second segment of episode #3 had Koshitan and Nokotan advance into their senior year of high school, with the narrator even joking about how the characters age, unlike in other anime. After the opening ceremony, Koshitan and Nokotan met Meme Bashame, a freshman who started admiring Nokotan after Nokotan gave her food and wanted to become a deer like her. Koshitan was annoyed by Bashame’s admiration of Nokotan, but she was convinced to let her join the Deer Club, and with Anko also joining, the Deer Club now had enough members to be an official club.

Anko in episode 3

In the third segment of episode #3, Koshitan got sick of how lazy everyone in the Deer Club kept acting and had them brainstorm ways to act more like a real club. Nokotan pointed out that since the Deer Club was supposed to be about taking care of deer, they needed to focus on making her happy, and that came about in Koshitan brushing Nokotan’s hair again. That escalated into Anko fighting with Nokotan over Koshitan while Bashame sat around eating rice, and while that was happening,a mysterious new group of characters was seen spying on the Deer Club.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Sets Up Antagonists For The Deer Club

While the new characters teased at the end of the episode are set up to be antagonistic, considering the tone of the series, any antagonism won’t be treated seriously, soMy Deer Friend Nokotan’s new group of characters will likely be a very comedic group of antagonists, the kind of characters someone would see bugging the main character of a sitcom every other episode. That sort of dynamic could do a lot to the series, so it would be great to see how that plays out.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode 3 Continues To Expand Its Comedy

My Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #3 was another episode that did a great job of expanding on the comedy of the series. The first segment was the first time the show didn’t have Koshitan playing off anyone, but there was still plenty of comedy just from Koshitan embarrassing herself through her inability to get out of her own head, and that shows thatMy Deer Friend Nokotancan still be funny without its more eccentric characters around. That showcases a lot of strength and versatility in the writing, and hopefully, that won’t be the last example of that.

The last two segments leaned more into the anime’s usual comedy, and it did a great job with that. Bashame is another character whose personality excellently plays off the other characters, and with her introduction and Anko now going to the same school as everyone, it’s clear thatMy Deer Friend Nokotanhas a core group with an amazing amount of comedic chemistry in the Deer Club. Having the core cast fully assembled promisesa lot of great weird comedy forMy Deer Friend Nokotan, and the series will surely deliver on it on all fronts.
