Meet Rina Mori, Elseworld’s Next Green Lantern

Green Lantern Dark#1 Releases on October 23rd, 2024

Rina Mori’sintroduction into Green Lantern lorehappens in the middle of a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth is overrun by zombies, per DC’s issue summary. In New England specifically,Solomon Grundy is leading a zombie army that continues to grow in size.As humanity struggles to survive in a world conquered by evil, the once dormant Green Lantern will eventually return after being missing for years. As writer Brombal says about Rina Mori:

Werther and I are reimagining what a Green Lantern can be and do with this comic book, and we are so proud to introduce the world to Rina Mori. She’s tired. She’s grumpy. The last thing she wants to do is save the world, but she’ll have to get up out of bed and do it anyhow. I promise you won’t want to miss it.

Artist Dell’Edera adds thatRina Mori is"the most rotten, grumpy, and adorable Green Lantern since Guy Gardner.“It sounds like Rina is going to be playing into the reluctant hero trope. It remains to be seen if such a mindset for her was caused by something that happened between her initial time as a Lantern and her mysterious disappearance, or if that’s just how her personality is. Ifthe Guy Gardner comparisonis anything to go off, then Rina may be the type of person to not make the best moralistic decision, may be a little too self-centered, but has a heart of gold at the end of the day.

With both Brombal and Dell’Edera promising to reimagine what Green Lanterns can do, there’s a chanceDarkwinds up being influential in the same regard. If successful, the creative team’s showcase of the endless possibilities could influence canonicalGreen Lanternstories while introducing audiences to a new, fantastical hero.
