Hush Planted The Seed For Many Mike Flanagan Projects To Come
The Movie Cemented A Relationship Between Flanagan And Netflix
It makes sense that Blumhouse, Shout!, and Intrepid would work to verify the 2016 horror movie continued to be available after departing Netflix. The movie is historically important, as itplanted the seed for many of the writer-director’s iconic horror projects to come. This includes the fact that it starred several recurringMike Flanagan actorsincluding Michael Trucco (Midnight Mass,The Fall of the House of Usher,The Life of Chuck), Samantha Sloyan (The Haunting of Hill House,The Midnight Club), andHushco-writer Kate Siegel (Ouija: Origin of Evil,Gerald’s Game, and many more).
Of the entire creditedHushcast, only John Gallagher Jr., who played the killer, and Emma Graves, who played the lead character’s sister, have not worked with Flanagan again.

The movie’s success on Netflix alsolaid the groundwork for a fruitful partnership between the platform and the directorfor many years to come. His later movie and television successes on the platform includeThe Haunting of Hill House,The Fall of the House of Usher,Gerald’s Game, and more. Perhaps even more importantly, the novel within the movie, which was written by Siegel’s character Maddie Young, became the basis for a future popularMike Flanagan Netflix horrorproject,Midnight Mass.
It remains to be seen what future announcements are in store forHush. However, it seems likely that Shout! Studios and Blumhouse will be honoring this seminal Mike Flanagan release with a physical media release at a later date, as it has not ever had a major DVD or Blu-Ray release. Even if that proves not to be the case, it is possible that the company will provide digital special features, as many of the label’s physical releases have robust arrays of features.
