Spotlight Hours take place every Tuesday at 6 PM in every Trainer’s local timezone. They’re some of the most popular events inPokémon GO, as they’re frequent and don’t require too much planning or commitment. Even if you’re not bothered about the featured Pokémon, it’s worth taking advantage of these bonuses.

It’s good news for shiny hunters, as every featured Spotlight Hour star this monthhas the potential to be shiny. The likelihood of finding one is still very slim, with an average 1-in-500 chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon in the wild, but with so many of them spawning throughout the hour-long event, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to try and find one.
If you’re only interested in finding a shiny Pokémon during these Spotlight Hour events, don’t waste time catching any non-shinies. Simply tap on a Pokémon, check if it’s shiny, and then run away from the catch screen if it’s not. Rinse and repeat.

Mankey’s Final Evolution Is A PvP Champion
Arguably thebest Spotlight Hour this month is Mankey on August 20. Its final evolution, the Paldea region’s Annihilape, has become one of thebest Great League competitorssince it made itsPokémon GOdebut, so every Trainer should have one on their team. The bonus for this Spotlight Hour is also an excellent one, letting you get a double Candy reward for transferring any duplicates you have in your Pokémon storage.
If you’re looking for a Pokémon that can take down powerful Raid Bosses, agreat Spotlight Hour star to focus on this month is Drilbur. Its evolution, Excadrill, is a top-tier Ground-type attacker that’s super-effective against Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, and Steel-type opponents. Excadrill can also perform quite well as a Steel-type attacker, although there are better options out there.
How To Prepare For Spotlight Hours In Pokémon GO
Make Sure You’ve Got Enough Poké Balls
One of the most important things you can do before taking part in a Spotlight Hour is toclear out your Pokémon Storageand make sure you’ve got enough room for all the new Pokémon you’ll be catching. Because these mini-events only last for one hour exactly, you don’t want to waste time transferring Pokémon when you run out od space (unless there’s a double transfer Candy bonus).
You’ll also want to ensure you’vegot plenty of Poké Ballssaved up, as running out of them mid-way through a Spotlight Hour will mean you either need to spend time spinning PokéStops or purchasing them from the in-game Shop to get more. Finally, check the bonus and see if you’ve got any items you can save for them. For example, if there’s a double Stardust bonus, using a Star Piece will give you even more Stardust rewards.
It’s a good idea to set a calendar reminder for any Spotlight Hours you are particularly interested in so you don’t forget, although the main thing with the weekly Spotlight Hours is to enjoy them. If you aren’t interested in the featured Pokémon, don’t feel like you have to take part. There are plenty of other events happening inPokémon GOall the time.
