Samsung Galaxy S23 Specs Leak Points to Faster Performance and (Hopefully) Better Battery Life

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 is only a few months away, and the leaks have begun. The latest information includes an overview of the phone’s key specs and some early benchmark tests. It points to faster performance and possible improvements in battery life, but otherwise, the S23 seems set to be quite similar to the S22. Let’s take a closer look.

Galaxy S23 Rumored Specs

The details on the specs of the Galaxy S23 come from the Twitter leaker Yogesh Brar. He’s got a good record with leaks, but describes the specs as “rumored” so there are no guarantees that this is exactly how the phone will end up.

There are two notable things on the list. First, is that the phone will be powered by the new—and as yet unannounced—Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that’s expected to offer big improvements in both performance and efficiency compared to the Gen 1 seen in the S22.

Samsung has suggested that it will use the chip more widely this time, in place of its own Exynos processor that the company has used in some regions including Europe. It’s yet to be confirmed but would represent a major upgrade forusers in those Exynos territories.

Alongside those mooted efficiency improvements is a slightly larger battery at 3900mAh, against the 3700mAh cell in the S22. Battery life has been a weakness of Galaxy flagships for a while now, so hopefully these changes will combine to bring some big improvements in that area.

Other than that, all signs point towards an incremental update—the same screen specs, the same camera, the same RAM and storage options, and the same charging speeds.

S23 Benchmarks

It looks like faster performance will be the big selling point for the phone. Another leak purports to show early benchmark scores for a US version of the S23. They show Geekbench 5 scores of 1524 for single-core and 4597 for multi-core, up from around 1100 and 3700 respectively for the S22.

It’s also not that far off the iPhone 14 which, of course, still uses last year’s chip. The iPhone 14 Pro with the new A16 Bionic processor remains way out in front and is likely to for some time.

When Will the S23 Launch?

The Galaxy S23 is expected to be announced in January 2023, to go on sale a month later, and will be accompanied as usual by the Plus and Ultra models. We can expect more of the details to leak well ahead of the launch.
