Summary
Sonic the Hedgehog 3has received a major progress update from composer Tom Holkenborg, or Junkie XL, ahead of the video game movie’s release later this year. TheupcomingSonic the Hedgehog 3will introduce Shadow to the movie universe, as well as showcase the return of Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik, who will seemingly be working alongside the new hedgehog. Many details about the film have remained under wraps, with footage shown at CinemaCon and a highly-anticipated trailer expected to arrive some time before the movie comes out.
However, speaking withCollider, Junkie XL revealed thatSonic the Hedgehog 3is complete, the composer already having seen the film prior to getting interviewed. He explained how his sons are also fans of the Blue Blur, teasing how exciting the video game sequel is. Check out what Junkie XL had to say about the movie below:

Actually, I saw the film for the very first time yesterday. I know what the film is all about. I’ve been in contact with the director, [Jeff Fowler], which I’ve also known for a really long time. He used to work with Tim Miller at Blur Studios. With Tim and Jeff, at the time, I didDeadpool, and after thatTerminator: Dark Fate, and then after that, it was the firstSonicand then the secondSonic, and now it’s the thirdSonic. It’s just such an exciting movie. It’s just really interesting.
I have two young boys, and it’s really great for a composer that you can watch a movie that you actually worked on and they’re very excited about it. They’ve seen the first and the second one maybe 20, 30, 40 times. That’s how our young kids wanna do it, you know? They wanna watch it again and again and again. So, I’m very excited for them to see this one by the end of the year.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3’s Completion Is Great News For The Sequel
The Movie Will Be Coming Out On Time
Junkie XL’s reveal thatSonic the Hedgehog 3is complete is a good sign for the movie, seemingly confirming that it will manage to come out by the time of its June 17, 2025 release date. The film suffered setbacks during production, with the 2023 Hollywood strikes delaying filming on the movie for live-action cast members. However, a seemingly finished script at the time meant shooting scenes just focused on the animated heroes could still be completed. Since the movie is finished, it seems the strikes weren’t a detriment to its overall production.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s post-credits scenehas already hinted at just how exciting the film will be, with Shadow’s backstory keeping his ties to Robotnik’s family from the game series. Given this accuracy to the movie’s game inspiration,it appears the third installment will be keeping in line with the source material this time around. However, Junkie XL remained vague on any story details, meaning it’s still unclear what will really happen in the movie. A story reveal is unlikely to happen until the first trailer finally gets released.
