Summary

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #5!Spider-Man 2099is and has always been the most hardcore version of the iconic web-slinger, something that was only enhanced the moment he bonded with his own ‘Venom’ symbiote. However, it wasn’t that he had his own symbiote that made Miguel O’Hara especially hardcore in his latest comic series, it’s the fact that he developedthe ultimate anti-Venom weapon- and actually had the stomach to use it.

InSymbiote Spider-Man 2099#5 by Peter David and Rogê Antônio, Miguel O’Hara is thrown into a murderous rage after Kron Stone, the original Venom 2099, killed his brother, Gabe. At this point in his series, Spider-Man has his own symbiote, and he is using it to battle Venom through the streets of Nueva York - and Miguel is hellbent on murdering him.

During the fight, Miguel attached his symbiote to Kron’s, and was able to communicate with the Venom symbiote directly. Miguel convinces Venom to bond with him, and abandon Stone - and the symbiote does it. Venom merges with Miguel’s symbiote and bonds with Miguel himself, all while Stone is thrown from the top of a building, presumably to his death. Just as both symbiotes thought they could wield Miguel’s Spider-Man powers for themselves, O’Hara activated a feature in his suit: Sonic Scream - and both symbiotes were immediately defeated.

Spider-Man Repeats His Hated ‘Deal with the Devil’ - Can Marvel Nail It This Time?

Spider-Man’s most hated storyline is arguably “One More Day”, and now, Marvel is repeating it, as Spider-Man is making another ‘deal with the devil’.

Spider-Man 2099’s Anti-Venom Weapon is More than Just the Sonic Scream

While the Sonic Scream feature in Spider-Man 2099’s suit was the thing that ultimately defeated the Venom symbiote (as well as his own), the ‘weapon’ in question was a bit more involved than simply flipping a switch. To beat Venom, Miguel had to first bond with another symbiote, convince that symbiote that they had achieved (or would achieve) full symbiosis, and then use it to pull the Venom symbiote into himself. Only then could Miguel activate the Sonic Scream, as it wouldn’t have worked unless the symbiotes were bonded to him.

This also shows that Miguel was willing to live with another symbiote whispering evil thoughts directly into his head for weeks before pulling off this ultimate victory. Plus, when it came time to finally pull the trigger, Miguel didn’t hesitate, even knowing that Kron Stone would likely die as a result. The mental strength it took to keep this maneuver a secret from an alien parasite living in his head, and then to actually go through with the plan when it was time to, is insanely hardcore, making Miguel himself the ultimate anti-Venom weapon.

Spider-Man 2099’s Anti-Venom Maneuver Should Be Copied by Peter Parker

Venom War#1 by Al Ewing and Iban Coello

Spider-Man 2099 proved he had the mettle to defeat Venom with an insanely hardcore maneuver, but what about Peter Parker? The main continuity of Marvel Comics is gearing up for theVenom War, which will see Peter Parker wear the Venom symbiote once more. This event also teases a future apocalypse, with Venom and the other symbiotes being directly responsible. Therefore, it would only make sense for Peter to have his own anti-Venom weapon up his sleeve, especially if he’s willing to bond with it - and Spider-Man 2099 just debuted the perfect maneuver that Peter Parker should absolutely copy.

While this maneuver would certainly do Peter Parker good going into the upcomingVenom Warevent, it seems that, for the moment, it’s a weapon that’s used by Miguel O’Hara exclusively. And honestly, that’s probably a good thing, because this anti-Venomweapon is way too hardcore for just any Spider-Man to use, which is why it’s perfect forSpider-Man 2099.
