Summary

When there’s a threat to Earth,Supermanis almost always the first hero to arrive on the scene to protect the world, especially if the threat is specifically towards Metropolis. Superman has been protecting Metropolis for decades from every threat he can, but now, there’s a monster loose in his city, and Superman is entirely unaware of it.

During the events ofPower Girl#10 by Leah Williams and Eduardo Pansica, Power Girl’s old ship, which she used to escape Krypton, becomes a major threat. The onboard AI of the ship becomes sentient and merges with one of the many animals thatSuperman keeps in the Fortress of Solitude, this one being a lion. Symbio quickly escaped the Fortress of Solitude and headed to Metropolis, becoming a major threat, especially sinceneither Power Girl nor Superman are aware of his presence in Metropolis.

Symbio Reveals His True Form

Symbio now lurks in Metropolis, trying to gather enough power until he can attack and steal Power Girl’s body for himself. Symbio is an immensely dangerous enemy, as he’s able to body-snatch other people, which grants him access to their full powers. This ability makes him a major threat, and it’s one Superman is entirely unaware of.

Superman Brings Back the Freakiest Use of His Superstrength, Reminding Fans He’s Not Even Close to Human

Superman’s most widely unhinged habit from the Golden Ages returns in Action Comics, and it’s the ultimate power move that DC needs to feature more.

The Power Girl Villain Symbio Is Loose In Metropolis

Symbio Has a Brand-New Form

Symbio is so dangerous because he can alter his body however he wants, appearing as a normal human being if he chooses. This power makes spotting him nearly impossible, and the most terrifying part is that Superman is entirely unaware that Symbio even exists. This means that Symbio couldpotentially body-snatch Superman, turning him from a major threat to a world-wide threat in one move. While that’s unlikely to happen, as Symbio seems pretty fixated on Power Girl given their shared history, it’s far from impossible.

While Superman does his best to protect Metropolis and Earth, he can’t protect them from threats he is unaware of.

This possibility demonstrates one ofSuperman’s biggest weaknesses. While Superman does his best to protect Metropolis and Earth, he can’t protect them from threats he is unaware of. Symbio has been playing the long game, and he’s been smart by avoiding the Super-Family directly, only doing things like attacking unrelated Czarnians instead. As long as Symbio avoids Superman’s attention, there’s not much the Man of Steel can do to stop Symbio from slowly gaining more and more power.Plenty of villains show up to Metropolis to make their name by attacking Superman, but Symbio is much smarter, which makes him a far bigger threat.

Symbio Is Already Strong Enough to Take Down Czarnians

What Else Can His New Form Do?

One of the best ways to deal with Superman is to simply avoid him. Other villains have learned this in the past, including the invisible mafia from Brian Michael Bendis' run onSupermandoing everything they could to avoid attracting Superman’s attention. Likewise, Symbio seems to be keeping a low profile, plotting and gathering power until he’s strong enough to take down Power Girl. While Clark Kent would do anything to protect a member of his family, evenSupermancan’t defend against threats he doesn’t know exist.
