Warning! This post contains spoilers for The Acolyte.
Summary
The Acolyte’sshowrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed one major fan theory regarding the show’s true Sith master isn’t accurate, leaving a majorStar Warsquestion unanswered. The Acolyteepisode 5revealed that Mae’s accomplice, Qimir, was actually her master, the masked villain known as the Stranger. Although he seemed to beThe Acolyte’sSith, audiences were immediately skeptical, as there were manyclues Qimir isn’t a Sith Lordat all. However, one of the most popular theories about whom the Sith master really is has been debunked by the showrunner herself.
In an interview withNerdist,The Acolyte’sshowrunner Leslye Headland addressed the fan theory that the show’s true Sith master is Mae and Osha’s mother, Mother Koril. Shockingly, though, in response to a question about whether Mother Koril will be revealed as Qimir’s master, Headland explained:

“Oh, I can answer that. They do not know each other. But what I will say, as a tease, if we are able to explore this story more, her species will tell you a little bit about where she ends up.”
This revelation is truly a surprise, but it also opens up questions about who Qimir’s Sith master truly is, assuming he has one, and what this potential future for Mother Koril could be.

The Acolyte: What Happened On Brendok Explained
The Acolyte finally revisited the tragic night on Brendok from 16 years earlier, but its explosive truth wasn’t as clear as it could have been.
The Zabrak Have Ties To The Nightsisters, Presumably Explaining Mother Koril’s Fate
Mother Koril is a Zabrak, a race that has been key inStar Warsalready, specifically in the prequel trilogy era. In fact, many believed Mother Koril could be a Sith because there was already a Zabrak Sith: Darth Maul. However, based on Headland’s response,it seems the Zabrak connection is almost certainly different.
Presumably, Headland was instead referring to Mother Koril having a possible future withthe Nightsisters of Dathomir. InStar Wars: The Clone Wars, the Nightsisters were revealed to not only be connected to male Zabraks such as Darth Maul and his brother Savage Opress but also be female Zabraks themselves. This could be what Headland was alluding to when she mentioned Mother Koril’s species hinting at where her story might go next.
Presumably, Headland was instead referring to Mother Koril having a possible future with the Nightsisters of Dathomir.
The Acolytehas also already drawn a connection betweenthe witches of Brendokand the Nightsisters of Dathomir in multiple ways. For one,The Acolytebrought back a major Nightsister powerin episode 7. In fact, tragically, that is precisely how Mother Aniseya died inThe Acolyte, as this power frightened Master Sol into an impulsive, deadly action. For another, the Jedi stationed on Brendok specifically discussed whether the witches might be Nightsisters in episode 7.
Of course, Headland’s recent interview also heavily hinted that these answers won’t come in the show’s final episode, releasing next week. Rather, Mother Koril’s fate being revealed inThe Acolyteseems to hinge entirely upon whether the show will be picked up for a second season, which hasn’t been confirmed. Arguably more interesting than Mother Koril’s possibleStar Warsfuture, though, is the fact thatThe Acolytemay still have a Sith master at large who is yet to be revealed.
