When one of these robots makes Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) believe that her missing brother is alive, she sets out on a quest to find him. He explains that when the robots stopped following human commands, they were banished to an area known as the Electric State. The opening propaganda footage reveals Keats to be a soldier who fought against the robots during the rebellion. The Electric State’s trailerprovides a better understanding of the world that is based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novelof the same name. It is not the robots, but humans like Tucci’s character, who are the villains in this world. His claim that he never trusted the robots, along with rounding them up and trapping them in a designated area, cements him as the primary antagonist. While the humans defeated the robots, it seems that many of them may have lost their humanity in the process.
Working with the robots and helping Millie to find her missing brother looks to be Keats' way of regaining the humanity that he lost when fighting during the robot uprising.
This is most apparent in Keats, a role that appears reminiscent of some ofChris Pratt’s best movies and television series.
