Summary

As a major new third-person looter shooter,The First Descendantis built on a lot of promises for the future. While the game has plenty to enjoy at launch, it’s following a live-service model of continued development and expansion, and remaining competitive in the long run will heavily depend on where the game goes from here. It’s already received criticism for some ofits approach to monetization, so there’s certainly room to improve the average player experience even aside from major gameplay and content additions.

For anyone wondering what to expect fromThe First Descendantin the coming months,an official roadmap lays out the path forward following the global launch. Considering how long some games can take to clarify post-launch plans, it’s certainly nice to get a roadmap right after launch. The official graphic clarifies what major additions can be expected before the end of 2024, laying out a basic template that should be filled out with more details as future seasons come more directly into view.

What The First Descendant’s Roadmap Includes

The Rest Of 2024 Has Been Laid out

As showcased byTFDalerton Twitter, the roadmap forThe First Descendantis divided into columns for the Global Launch, Season 1, and Season 2. The first update under the Global Launch category is planned for early August, and will bring a new Descendant character named Luna along with a new Colossus boss called Gluttony to fight. The Descendant character Valby is getting a new Ultimate variant to power her up and offer some unique mods, and an ultimate weapon and new skin fill out the rest of this first promised update.

Season 1 is planned to kick off in late August, and its additions will be split into three updates that carry things forward for several subsequent months. The big promise of Season 1 is a new episode called Invasion, which will bring season progression and field completion with it. A new Descendant and Colossus will both join, with an accompanying story and dungeon respectively. Unlike the early August additions, their identity hasn’t yet been revealed. The same goes for a new weapon, new skin, and new Ultimate Descendant also joining in Season 1.

The First Descendant’s roadmap consistently refers to weapons and skins in singular, but that may just be a quirk of the formatting if more is in the works.

Season 2 brings a new episode of its own under the name Ancestor, which is joined bythe addition of a new Mega Dungeon that might offer a raid experience. The other completely fresh addition is a Utility Companion, which is highlighted as one of the primary inclusions for the season. The rest follow the guide of the previous updates, with a new Descendant, Colossus, weapon, skin, and Ultimate Descendant. These updates will start in early December and presumably roll a few months over into 2025. Content throughout updates should be purchasable throughThe First Descendant’s Caliber currencywhen it’s not freely available.
