Claude’s preview window, also known as Artifacts, isn’t just another bells-and-whistles addition—it’s a powerful tool that can help you interact more effectively with your AI-generated content.

The Artifact allows you to view, manipulate, and interact with the content Claude generates for you in previously impossible ways. If you haven’t given it a go, it’s absolutely time to do so.

How Claude’s Preview Window Works

If you don’t have an ongoing chat (something inYour recent chats), you won’t get the pop-up. ClickTry it out, and you’ll be taken to a new window where you can toggle on Artifacts.

After flipping the switch on, the new settings will apply to your future conversations. For instance, I prompted Claude to help me design a website. This request activated a window where I could preview the designed website.

In addition to previewing the front end of the website, I could clickCodeat the top of the preview window to see the underlying code of the Artifact—in this case, my portfolio website.

You getPreviewandCodeoptions for all non-document Artifact content—images, code snippets, etc.

Note that not all your prompts will automatically trigger an Artifact preview. Claude typically creates an Artifact for content that is:

The content must be complex and stand-alone before triggering a preview window. For instance, I requested a list of possible interview questions, and although the text was over 15 lines long, it didn’t trigger a preview window.

However, when I asked that the interview questions be arranged more structured with additional content, a preview window popped up.

Artifacts are created only when they make your interactions with Claude more accessible and easier to work with.

Why the Claude Preview Window Is a Game-Changer

Here are three ways Claude’s preview window can transform how you work with AI-generated content:

1. It Enhances How You Collaborate With Others

Claude’s preview window makes sharing specific, actionable parts of your conversation a breeze. You have several options:

These options, conveniently located in the lower right corner of your Artifact, make it easier for you to share or integrate Claude’s output into your projects.

When you share the link to view an Artifact, the person viewing it has an option to refine the Artifact. ClickingRemix Artifactwith their Claude.ai account allows them to integrate the Artifact into a new chat and adapt it as they’d like.

2. You Can Open and Manage Multiple Artifacts in One Conversation

You’re not limited to one Artifact per conversation. In a single chat, I had Claude design both an interview guide and a related email campaign metrics chart.

Switching between your Artifacts is as simple as clicking the chat controls icon in the top right corner of the page.

This feature allows you to manage a complex project with multiple parts within a single conversation.

3. Easily Control Your Artifacts' Versions

The preview window allows you to update existing Artifacts while retaining previous versions.

For instance, I prompted Claude to redesign the portfolio section of a website as a grid; it was initially designed as a list of my projects. After the update, I could toggle between the two designs using the version buttons at the bottom left of the preview window.

This feature ensures you don’t lose earlier iterations, so you can experiment and tweak as much as you want.

Thanks to Artifacts, Claude is now a dynamic workspace that enhances your ability to create, edit, and share AI-generated content. It’s a game changer whether you’re designing websites, preparing guides, designing logos, or anything else.
