The Barrow-wights Were Cut From The Lord Of The Rings Movies (But Appear In The Books)
The Rings Of Power Season 2’s Ghouls Are Based On J.R.R. Tolkien Books
The Barrow-wights constituted an unfortunate encounter for the Hobbits inThe Lord of the Ringsbooks, but Peter Jackson left them out of his movies. InThe Lord of the Ringstimeline, the Barrow-wights appeared during the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, capturing Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Although the scene is an iconic moment in the book, occurring near the start of the group’s journey, Jackson did not include it – partly because it would also have forced him to feature the problematic character of Tom Bombadil.
Judging by the trailer, it’s difficult to tell how prominent the Barrow-wights will be in the Amazon series. However, given their history in the franchise, it seems like they will prove just as problematic for the main characters inThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
